Where It All Started
It began on the blacktop. Literally.
Scott “Bubba” Sinnott was running his family’s paving business in Duluth, Minnesota.
He’d worked every role—laborer, operator, truck driver, ops lead. When he and his brother took over the company, they had one goal: grow it.
But tragedy struck.
Just as they took over leadership of the business, their father—the company’s founder—passed away. They were left with a vision, a crew to lead, and no margin for error.
That pressure led Bubba to build a spreadsheet-based system to track performance and profitability in real-time. It worked. But it wasn’t enough.
So he kept improving it. He ate pancakes with mentors, scribbled ideas on napkins, refined every tool until he had something that worked like a race car: fast, precise, and powerful.
That tool became Performance Margin—the software now powering Total Profit Management.
The Pivot Point
Years later, Bubba was asked to help a business owner who couldn’t explain his own financials.
Tom Peterson—a longtime friend and business strategist—called Bubba into a planning session. In under an hour, the business owner went from overwhelmed to crystal clear on where the money was going… and where it should be going.
That was the lightbulb moment.
Tom realized this wasn’t just a helpful spreadsheet. It was a missing system—the one thing standing between hardworking business owners and the profitability they deserved.
That’s when Total Profit Management was born.
